This presentation incorporated photo story and movie maker. The presenter shared that she created a photo story first and then put it into movie maker. She reviewed the process she used with her students. She used photo story first.
The first step was to decide upon a topic that the students would use.
She had the students create a folder for their pictures on their student drives. (note make sure students save the full size picture and not the thumnail of a picture).
She also had the students open a word document as they began to save pictures so that they could begin creating a works cited to correlate with their pictures. All the students needed to do was copy and paste the site links for each picture into the works cited so that they can, at some point, go back and create the works cited in a formal manner.
Next students opened their photo story software (free download from Microsoft).
To get started students will begin a story (one of the options that can be seen upon opening the software) and select next. Note: Once a project is started it can be saved and reopened upon future uses of photo story.
Students will then choose import pictures. (pictures can be moved and reorganized within photo story after they are imported). Students can eliminate black edges before moving on to the next step.
Students will, on the next step, add captions as needed on each of the pictures. Students can select the location for the captions, the font, and size and they can add affects to the pictures such as sepia, black and white, etc. After clicking next,
Students will add narration to their pictures. Students can record and rerecord their words. They can also key in what they want to say so that they can read it as they are recording it. Students can preview their work also.
Students can then customize the motion within their photo story to show where the presention of the photo should start and end. Students can add transitions at this point or they can add them later in movie maker. Before leaving this section students can preview their work. Once all narration and customized motion is complete students click next and
Students next can add music. Students can create their own copyright free music using the numerous selections available within photo story. Students can also use downloaded music, but must be aware of copyright laws related to use of music. Music must be in MP3 format.
Save the final version of the photo story project as a windows media file.
Now students can move on to movie maker.
Open movie maker and import your final windows media file photo story project.
Drag your media into the movie maker timeline and begin making your movie. All that is needed it so move the pictures from the movie file into movie maker. Because you have already added all the effects via the photo story work this will save time.
After photo story clips have been added, affects can then be added in the movie maker. Transitions can then be added to the slides. In Movie maker students can also add titles and credits which is not something that is not an option of photo story. (Note this can be done in photo story if students create their credit slides in powerpoint and save them as jpeg files which can then be imported to photo story).
